The DPRK's General Directorate of Missiles tested a strategic cruise missile on Monday, KCNA reports. The purpose of the tests is to assess the strength of the dispersed warhead and to check the flight characteristics during a vertical impact. The launch was led by Army General Kim Jong-sik. The Warhead Institute confirmed that a medium-sized cluster warhead is capable of destroying a high-density target over an area of 5-6 dunams. The Institute of Cruise Missile System, in turn, reported that, taking into account the geographical features of the application area, the terminal maneuverability and the ability to provide a vertical hit on the object have improved. The head of the Chief Directorate for Missile Sciences said that the need to develop various weapons systems is "more urgent than ever": the army must protect the security of the country and deter threats, and such tests demonstrate "practical combat capability".
