Daily Mail: Russia is developing space-based 'doomsday' nuclear weapons. The publication, citing a report by the US Defense Intelligence Agency, writes that Russia is allegedly developing a new nuclear weapon that can be detonated in orbit. According to American intelligence, such an explosion could simultaneously destroy thousands of satellites and lead to catastrophic results for the global economy. Separately, the British tabloid expresses concern for the UK economy, noting that 18% of the country's GDP, or roughly £454 billion, depends on satellite services. "Such a space-based weapon could cause the rapid and sudden loss or disruption of thousands of satellites operated by countries and companies around the world, as well as the communications, navigation, scientific research, meteorology, commercial services and national security systems these satellites provide." The British tabloid notes that it is still unclear how Russia intends to deploy new nuclear weapons. It is assumed that it can be in orbit and launched from a satellite or used from the surface of the Earth. The publication also draws attention to the fact that the Pentagon's statements about Russia's new nuclear weapons development came after Vladimir Putin's latest warning to those who expect to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia. The "Daily Mail" quotes the Russian president as saying: "Many people keep talking about preparing for war by 2030. Is this true or false? First of all, we are ready, but we don't want any war with Europe. Regarding them, if anyone wants, let him prepare. But they did not achieve their goal - to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia. It is unlikely that this will be possible until 2030. And if things go too far, there will be no winners at all. That no one will forget it."
