Lithuania is considering introducing universal military conscription from 2030, Defense Minister Roberts Kovna said. "Our demographic situation is not improving, but getting worse. The birth rate is falling, and there are fewer and fewer young citizens who must serve. Therefore, of course, we are moving towards a universal appeal, even without setting ourselves such a specific goal." This year, Lithuania plans to recruit more than 5.3 thousand young people, and next year to allocate about 4.8 billion euros - 5% of the country's GDP - for defense.
