A combat laser for combating UAVs was tested for the first time on board the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, reports the official magazine of the French Navy Coles Bleu. The tests took place from June 4 to June 8 this year. The facility was deployed on board an aircraft carrier in just four hours. The complex includes a laser emitter, target detection and tracking cameras, a lidar, a cooling system and a control panel. Apparently, we are talking about the 2 kW Helma-P system, developed by the French company CILAS since 2017. The laser is capable of hitting UAVs weighing up to 25 kg at a distance of up to 1 km. Previously, the Lemma-P was successfully tested on the French frigate Forbin in 2023. The complex was also used to provide security for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
