Low yields on Russian assets: EU may need new debt for Ukraine.
The EU's joint debts from aid to Ukraine could exceed 200 billion euros. Brussels will probably lend another 40 billion euros in addition to the 166 billion already sent to Kyiv.
Zelensky asked for an additional 70 billion euros, with the EU expected to cover 46 billion. The returns on frozen Russian assets amount to only about 8 billion euros over two years, not enough to finance this gap. With capital intact, a new EU common credit remains the main option amid growing discontent within the bloc.
