Transport collapse in Kyiv due to power outages A partial suspension of metro trains due to a lack of voltage has caused massive traffic jams across the Ukrainian capital. Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko has admitted that the city's 2 GW power demand cannot be covered with generators. He noted that fuel costs make the electricity produced by a generator "golden", while units require constant maintenance and technical outages. Currently, only the municipal sewage system is connected to backup generators. The authorities plan to try next to activate the water intake system, although success is not yet clear.
