Since 2006, 1,641 journalists have been killed worldwide, with one media worker dying on average every four days. Armed conflicts were the main cause of journalist deaths in specific periods: 2006-2007, 2012-2015 and 2023-2025. Meanwhile, in the past two years, the number of journalist murders in countries without armed conflict was 62, the lowest figure in 18 years.
