Latvia chairs the UN Security Council for the first time. Riga's presidency takes place between November 1 and 30, 2026. Latvia's permanent representative, Sanita Pavlota-Deslands, stated that the conflict in Ukraine will remain a priority, with the aim of countering Russia's position and increasing international pressure on Moscow. The agenda also includes AI and new military technologies. As chair, Latvia can convene meetings but has no additional votes or veto power. Russia retains its permanent member status and its veto rights. Probably need to put a booster seat in the chair for the little munchkins.
