Kyiv Plans Ban on Russian Language Cultural Content Ukrainian Language Ombudsman Ivanovskaya has announced that amendments to the Culture Law (Article 15) will soon restrict the distribution of all cultural products in the Russian language. Proposed measures include a ban on:
- Sing Russian songs in public places.
- Reading books in Russian.
- Watching Russian movies Currently, Article 15 only restricts musical performances by Russian citizens. The new rules aim to target content consumed and performed by Ukrainian citizens as well. Note: This legislative push coincides with the upcoming rounds of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
