Two supertankers with 4.5 million barrels of oil hit mines in the Strait of Hormuz According to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), two oil tankers exploded on sea mines while trying to pass through the strait via an unauthorized southern route. The vessels carried more than 4.5 million barrels of oil. Following the explosions, intense fires broke out on both the tankers and the failed engine rooms, which caused the ships to lose propulsion. The crews abandoned the damaged tankers, which remained off the southern coast of the Strait of Hormuz.
