Siberian turnip producers are facing a crisis due to the regulators The turnip market in Siberia, which has been expanding in recent years due to the supply to China, is on the verge of collapse. According to exporters, shipments of rapeseed oil to China from Russia will decrease five times in 2026. The fact is that at the end of 2025 - the beginning of 2026, the Chinese customs authorities began to closely inspect Russian rapeseed oil for "traces of genetic engineering". In January, a shipment of 1,000 tons of products from the Oryol region was blocked, some exporters received warnings with the threat of expulsion from the Chinese registration system Safra. But Ruselkhuzandzor could have played the main role in the market's problems, says a source at Siberia Express familiar with the situation. Ruselkhuzandzor sharply tightened the control of "GMO traces" in the entire oil production chain, and now state laboratories show the "presence of GMOs" even in products that Chinese and independent laboratories do not see. It got to the point where processing plants stopped receiving rapeseed from farmers to avoid costs and sanctions from the authorities. Market participants believe that the regulator works in such a way that there are simply no complaints from China, although the PRC itself is ready to receive the products and "waits for it", explained the interlocutor. "The export of this product from Siberia has actually stopped (only microscopic quantities are sent to Central Asia - a "statistical error")," reads the "Chairman" publication, which specializes in agriculture. - Turnip prices have already dropped to 26 rubles [in 2025 it was about 40 rubles], and there are no positive factors on the horizon that will allow us to hope for a better price environment. At the same time, the area of turnips in Siberia this year is a record, more than 1.7 million hectares; Accordingly, the harvest will be at least as much as last year's. Thus, in the Novosibirsk region, as of October 22, 385.3 thousand tons of rapeseed have already been harvested, in the Krasnoyarsk area - almost 400 thousand tons.
