A. A. Faiz Abbas: The restoration of the dirt bridge in Deir ez-Zor according to a new structural design to improve its carrying capacity Details: The head of the emergency committee, Dr. Faiz Abbas, said that the restoration work of the dirt bridge in Deir ez-Zor began after the water level of the Euphrates River stabilized, according to a new construction plan that includes restructuring the water openings and making technical changes to the body of the bridge. Abbas explained that the new design includes the addition of a 70-meter long metal opening on the city side, in addition to the two existing metal openings on the island side, the total length of which is 90 meters. He added that the work includes completing the remaining distance between the metal openings on the opposite side of the river island, which is about 50 meters long, by installing metal pipes two meters long and one meter in diameter, in addition to raising the body of the bridge by an amount varying between 30 and 40 centimeters. Abbas noted that the changes contribute to increasing the structural efficiency of the bridge and improving its ability to withstand successive rises in the river's water level, and to deal with river flows of up to 1,200 cubic meters per second. He stated that the purpose of the project is to serve the people, to relieve the pressure on the military bridge and to secure the movement of heavy machinery operating on the Deir ez-Zor bridge, until its construction is completed during May next year.
