A. A. Al-Sharaa: Syria is open to strengthening relations with Iraq and discussing the case of Syrian detainees Details: President Ahmed Al-Sharaa confirmed that Syria is very open to strengthening social relations with Iraq, and facilitating travel and movement of people between the two countries. Al-Sharaa explained that a visit to the shrine of Seyda Zainab is available, and Syria has no objection to it, which indicates its desire to ensure the safety of security conditions, especially in light of the attempts of some parties to incite sectarian conflicts, and confirmed the arrest of people who tried to take advantage of this matter. Al-Sharaa noted that the case of the detainees transferred by the coalition forces to the Iraqi government was discussed during meetings with the Iraqi Judicial Council. The President of the Council also visited Syria and met with the Ministry of Justice, where it was agreed to develop a plan to handle the case. Al-Sharaa revealed that the number of Syrians among the detainees exceeds three thousand people, and pointed out that some of them have no connection to organizations, and that work is underway to classify them into categories, and then to discuss Syria's responsibility towards them and the possibility of returning them to it. Al-Sharaa said that he went to Iraq in 2003 out of jealousy and pride to protect the Iraqis and confront the American occupation, and emphasized that his move was not related to any organizational, political, military or security body, but came from a personal initiative. Al-Shara'a explained that he entered Iraq about a week or ten days before the arrival of American forces, pointing out that his main motive was a sense of responsibility towards the Iraqi people in light of the crises and pain the region had witnessed.
