Information reported by the American journalist Matthew Cole in his book "Princes and Thieves", and supported by the human rights organization DAWN, revealed that the former head of the Union of Arab Writers, the Emirati poet Habib Sayegh, was kidnapped and tortured to death, against the background of his position rejecting normalization in 2019, in which he condemned his country, in which he condemned its normalization, the Emirates, and they buried him in an unknown grave in the desert.
Accordingly, we call on the General Union of Iraqi Writers and Writers, and on all Iraqi writers and intellectuals, to condemn this crime explicitly and in a stated position, out of loyalty to the poet who loved Iraq and supported its writers. Condemning injustice is a moral duty that is not subject to the statute of limitations.
