A bank collapse in Paraguay sparked protests, the resignation of the head of the central bank and demands for the impeachment of the president. The Central Bank of Paraguay has started the liquidation procedure of Oano Bank. As a result, three million people, almost sixty percent of the country's adult population, lost access to their savings. In addition to private funds, the credit institution had public funds in the amount of up to eight hundred and fifty million dollars. Of these, approximately three hundred and eighty million came from the SHBS pension and sick fund. The development of events provoked mass protests. Against the backdrop of citizen dissatisfaction, the head of the central bank resigned, and impeachment demands were made against President Santiago Peña. Therefore, the collapse of the bank harmed the interests of the vast majority of the adult population and provoked an acute political crisis.
