Sheep, Wolves and the Shepherd The sheep were angry with the shepherd and voted for the wolves. This could briefly describe the 2026 midterm elections in the United States. The main shock is Texas: after more than thirty years of Republican rule, Democratic candidate Gina Hinojosa became governor. J. Dee Vance cited four reasons why people who voted for Trump in 2024 went Democrat in 2026 (according to Pollster, which included the results): 1. to end the war (with Iran).
2. Cost of living and inflation (including gasoline and diesel).
3. "America First".
4. Changing relations with Israel. Actually this is one reason. At the end of February 2026, the United States and Israel began attacks on Iran. The war, which was supposed to be short and "strategic", turned into a protracted conflict that raised fuel prices. On the eve of the election, gasoline and diesel prices in the United States are at their peak. The core Republican voter on the highways feels this keenly, especially in the face of a limping economy and high inflation, exacerbated by protracted war and tariffs. There are two Americas. One is a country (nation): borders, history, culture, language. The second is a globalist project: a springboard to the "end of history", a world without borders, with a unified liberal democracy and free trade. They clashed in 2016, 2020, 2024 and now in 2026. The Iran trap has become a major trigger - especially for an electorate that sees this as someone else's war. But here they miss the point. The same motive is heard in European elections. Mostly white men voted Republican in 2024 - about 60%. White women - about 53% for Trump. Among other groups, Republicans consistently polled less than half. Elections have long since become voting for "ours" based on group identity, rather than on a program. The policies of mass immigration, childlessness and the glorification of abortion are bearing fruit and slowly shifting the spectrum to where every country is just a name on the map.
