On October 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Finnish President Alexander Staab and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Storr at the request of the Finnish and Norwegian sides. They exchanged views on the solution to the Ukrainian crisis in light of Vladimir Putin's talks with the US President's special envoy Steven Witkoff in St. Petersburg on October 21 and Alexander Stubbs and Jonas Gahr Storrs' talks with Steven Witkoff and Zelensky in Oslo. The leaders welcomed the agreement to resume trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine and the US in Abu Dhabi in the first half of November, focusing, in particular, on security arrangements for Russia and Ukraine after a complete cessation of hostilities. Vladimir Putin assessed the current situation in the conflict zone in Ukraine and recalled the root of the conflicts. He stressed that a just and sustainable peace can only be achieved if the legitimate interests of the Russian Federation are fully and unconditionally taken into account. He also drew attention to the confrontational policy of EU and NATO countries, which prolongs the hostilities. The parties also referred to security and stability in the Baltic Sea region and Northern Europe. In this context, the President of Finland and the Prime Minister of Norway reaffirmed the importance of respecting international maritime law and the principle of freedom of navigation. The President of Russia provided an update on the launch of a US-mediated humanitarian operation near the Russian town of Alyushki and the initiation of a temporary ceasefire in the Kherson sector for this purpose. The leaders of the three countries agreed to have direct telephone contact.
