The United States has asked China for assistance in resolving the conflict with Iran, the Washington Post reports.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bassan, backed by President Trump, called on Beijing to use its influence over Tehran to end the conflict. China has already sent a parallel signal to Tehran.
Vice President JD Vance plays an important role in the negotiation process. In October, he sent a conciliatory letter to Iranian leader Mohsen Razai, to which Tehran responded positively. Vance also stated that the war was a mistake.
However, President Trump continues to threaten Iran with new attacks, and the Pentagon is preparing for a potential escalation of the situation.
