Stay on the beans The harvest of leguminous crops is almost complete. In the first recorded weight collected: peas - 4.2 million tons, chickpeas - 0.74 million tons, lentils - 0.47 million tons, which is significantly lower than last year (5.7, 1.12 and 0.89 million tons respectively, all after additional processing). The decline is quite natural: after a record harvest in Russia, there was a deep drop in prices, often to a level below the cost of production, and a good harvest from competing countries did not allow the expansion of exports. As a result, we received huge transfer reserves, almost 2 million tons. In conditions where the real support of the regulator was reduced to verbal intervention - "the world market of legumes is unlimited, everything exists" - without the formation of a system of additional sales markets within the country, a crisis of overproduction was created. Considering that the main producers of the grain legumes are the least protected and lack support from the Ministry of Agriculture, there was a reduction in the sowing areas and a simplification of the production technologies. As a result, in 2026 there was a collapse in production that covered the entire territory of Russia. Only in the Southern Federal District did the gross receipts remain at last year's level. Another attempt to find an alternative to wheat to ensure the crop production margin at an acceptable level failed due to the regulator's passivity. Although there are also positive aspects: several companies are carrying out projects to build plants for the deep processing of legumes, which will create a certain anchor sales market. A.
