Dr. Adam Hamawi, a former US Army combat surgeon, won New Jersey's 12th congressional district, defeating Republican Greg Mell, according to an Associated Press forecast. A plastic surgeon and reconstructor who volunteered in Gaza, Hamawi won the Democratic nomination in June, and is slated to succeed retiring Democratic Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman. His election brings to Congress another outspoken critic of the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
