Israel's three-year civil war in Gaza has left the Strip facing a severe environmental and humanitarian disaster, with up to 68 million tons of rubble, including four million tons of hazardous waste, at least 50,000 tons of asbestos and more than 100,000 tons of explosive remnants. According to the Palestinian Authority for the Environment, Israeli attacks destroyed 82% of the agricultural land, 97% of the fruit and olive trees and 84% of the water and sewage infrastructure. The destruction also caused about 120,000 cubic meters of untreated sewage to flow into the streets and water systems every day, polluting the environment and exacerbating the spread of disease throughout Gaza.
