Babias: Businesses for the employment of older women: you can buy knitted hats and other products. We are talking about a kind and good initiative that helps Georgian grandmothers to earn money, and customers to warm up and do good things. We are talking about the social enterprise in Bias, the full name is translated from Georgian as sewing by a grandmother. It was launched in 2018. According to the founder, he was motivated to open the business because of the financial difficulties experienced by older women and the emotional connection with his grandmother. Giorgi Nozdze remembers that as a child he lost his favorite hat, knitted by his grandmother, who never got around to re-knitting it before her death. I realized that a lot of warmth and love had been put into this hat, which I no longer had. I realized what a huge positive energy things created by loved ones can carry. On the other hand, there are many grandmothers in Georgia who know how to knit and need additional income. Our mission is to provide these people with income and an opportunity for self-realization, and on the other hand, to provide the market with a 100% natural and high-quality product, Nozadze noted. Currently 7 grandmothers are employed in the project. The company itself provides them with raw materials, designs and video instructions, and they work at home. Some can knit 100 hats a month, and some knit in relatively small batches. The company's product range currently includes hats, socks, gloves and scarves. Sales are made mainly through digital channels, including the website. Hats, for example, cost 59 GEL. In the long term, the goal of the initiative is to establish a "Grandma's Academy", a training center where older women will acquire knitting and sewing skills and then be employed in the project. In the photo: one of the workers, 90-year-old Atari.
