OpenAI, the developer of the ChatGPT chatbot, has appointed former US Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll as a senior advisor for national security modernization. This was reported by the company's press service. Driscoll advised OpenAI and its partners in the use of advanced artificial intelligence technologies to strengthen national and cyber security. Special attention will be paid to cooperation with US allies and the responsible use of artificial intelligence. As part of his work, he will interact with OpenAI teams, representatives of government agencies, industry, academia and international institutions. Its mission is to facilitate the implementation of practical initiatives to develop so-called "democratic AI," the company added. In addition, the former minister advised the company's partners in the modernization of policy and strategic approaches for exploiting the potential of artificial intelligence to strengthen national security. "Artificial intelligence should give people more control over their lives, and people should influence its development. The US has a unique opportunity to work with other countries to advance the spread of democratic AI. "I am pleased to welcome Dan Driscoll to OpenAI as he will help strengthen American leadership and contribute to the achievement of this goal," said the company's CEO, Sam Altman. Driscoll himself noted that he devoted a significant part of his career to public service and understands that his former colleagues "reach the most modern tools." "National security requirements are changing faster than at any time in the last 50 years. This technology will help them keep up with the changes: it will reduce the amount of paperwork, allow them to analyze large amounts of information and quickly provide the right answers to the right people.
