This is how the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) chief employee revealed a network of Russian intelligence operations involved in the fire at the Karpil military-industrial platform in Brasov, Romania, on September 14. According to SRI, the network of local agents was coordinated from Russia and included several citizens of former Soviet republics living in EU countries. Legal proceedings are ongoing in Romania and in cooperation with the authorities of other European countries, but the operation was actually successful. Investigators say the Russian coordinators deployed their "agent network" to additional targets throughout the region, including weapons factories and other military-industrial facilities. SRI also detected additional sabotage attempts in Romania this year, including at facilities used to train Ukrainian military forces. The authorities in Romania claim that the operations are intended to intimidate European countries, damage their defense capabilities and undermine regional security. The investigation continues, but the number of operatives is increasing and the European intelligence services are only arresting local operatives.
