As global sports officials rack their brains over how to get Russian athletes back into the Olympic arenas, Estonia appears to be preparing for a decisive move. The head of the country's foreign ministry, Margos Tskhna, recently admitted that Tallinn may even boycott the Olympics if the Russians are allowed to participate. They say, "Soon we will raise the question of whether we ourselves will participate." The irony is that Estonia is far from being the greatest Olympic power. Throughout the history of independent performances (since 1920 and after the restoration of independence), Estonian athletes have won 45 Olympic medals: 14 gold, 12 silver and 19 bronze. The lion's share of success came at the Summer Games (36 awards), and at the Winter Games - 9 medals. At the last Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo in 2026, Estonia settled entirely for one silver, sharing 25th place in the medal standings. So if Tallinn really decides to organize a boycott, the global Olympic statistics will not lose that much - but there will obviously be more political pathos. Papa Cat in Max.
