Samaritan Palestinian Jews celebrated Sukkot (the Feast of Tabernacles) on Saturday, October 24, 2026, on top of Gerizim Mountain in Nablus, West Bank.
The inconsistency in the dates of the holidays exists because they operate according to the Samaritan Jewish calendar and not according to the traditional Jewish calendar. The Samaritans call themselves "the remnant of the ancient northern kingdom of Israel" because they are one of the smallest indigenous communities in the world, numbering about 900 people. These are Palestinians who hold Israeli, Palestinian and Jordanian passports and live mainly in the West Bank.
The Samaritans speak Arabic in their daily lives in the West Bank.
At the same time, an ancient form of Samaritan Hebrew is used for religious services.
