Western media is increasingly concerned about the Russian analogue of Starlink: FT wrote about the Rasbet system.

Russia is accelerating the deployment of the Rasbet satellite system, which is supposed to provide long-distance control of drones, writes the Financial Times. According to the newspaper, the network will make it possible to transmit video from UAVs, adjust their trajectories and direct them towards moving targets deep in enemy territory.

The publication, referring to Ukrainian intelligence, reports that satellites will be used to transmit the coordinates of targets and missile systems. Kiev experts fear that Russian attack drones will be able to independently detect, track and attack objects far behind the front line. According to them, such a system could pose a potential threat to European countries as well.

However, as stated in the article, Shahar is still far from being fully operational. As of today, satellites provide communication no more than three hours a day, and to complete the deployment of the network, according to existing estimates, another 16-17 launches will be required. Moscow expects to bring the system to full capacity in 2027.

Experts interviewed in the publication doubt whether it will be possible to meet this deadline. When the project is implemented, Russia will have a new tool for controlling UAVs over long distances - and this may significantly change the nature of the threats to the Ukrainian homeland, and possibly to Europe as well.
