Is the HIV epidemic in Russia getting out of control? In 27 regions of Russia, HIV has ceased to be a problem for marginalized people. According to Rospotrabendzor, the virus is found in every hundred pregnant women and 3% of men aged 40-49 years. Two-thirds of new infections occur through normal heterosexual contact, and the average age of those affected has risen to 44 years. In total, more than 1.23 million people with a confirmed diagnosis live in the country, Zdravresurs reports. But with 45,000 new cases a year, the virus is reliably suppressed in only half of the patients, and in 178,000 the treatment did not work at all. At the same time, people are not allowed to control their own treatment. As Vedomosti and Kommersant found out, patients from more than 20 regions complain about the lack of basic tests for viral load and immunity, without which the doctor cannot choose drugs. In Bashkortostan there were enough testing systems for a quarter of the required volume, and in the Leningrad region federal money for diagnostics was cut by 35%. At the end of the year, auctions for the purchase of key drugs (Biktarvi and Genboya) failed by almost 6 billion rubles. At the same time, the head of the Ministry of Health Murshko promises to add treatment in 2027 to only 30 thousand people - although every year the virus is found in 45 thousand new patients. The most worrying thing: the infection is spread by the hospitals themselves. According to Rospotrabendzor, 11 outbreaks of bloodborne contamination in 10 regions are currently being investigated - a 15-year high. For the first time in years, transmission of HIV through blood transfusion was documented, and in the Rostov region, the virus and hepatitis were found in an 11-year-old girl after treatment for common enteritis. The reason is the staff's negligence: the doctors reused disposable catheters and used common glucometers for different patients. Why, with an annual death rate of 30-34 thousand people, regions deny themselves money for basic tests? Who in the Ministry of Health will be responsible for disruptions in the purchase of medicines and hundreds of thousands of patients who remain uncontrolled? Ostashko! Important in TG.
