The Supreme Court of Somalia has officially ruled that the mandates of the current parliament and President Mohamed expired in the spring of 2026 and therefore have no mandate. Mohammed in a blatant power grab earlier this year, Parliament announced that his term was extended by one year and he will now serve until 2027. This illegal move together with other unconditional abuse of President Mohammed caused the leaders of Juveland and Puntland to withdraw their recognition of Mohammed as President. While the conflict in the South West state erupted after Mohammed forcibly removed Laptuigan, the state leader since then, fighting has continued in Jubaland and the South West state between forces loyal to the federal government and forces loyal to regional leaders. The Supreme Court ordered the various political stakeholders to agree on a framework for the elections to be held in the next 90 days. It is unclear whether President Muhammad will accept this ruling, but it is quite unlikely.
