France wants a major expansion of its military. New Force Structure and Weapons: 2027: A battle-ready brigade deployment of 25,000 men and 9,000 vehicles. 2030: Establishment of a multinational military force led by France of 60-100 thousand soldiers. HIMARS parallel to Thundart by 2030–31. Development of conventional ground-based ballistic missiles from 2028. Range +2500 km Artillery: 150 self-propelled CAESAR NG type howitzers with long-range roaming ammunition arriving from 2027. Air defense: 30 Serval Mistral vehicles ordered, 50 PROTEUS SPAAG planned and 8 new G200 MM radars. Major weaknesses and future expansion: Up to 10 additional battalions expected include artillery, UAVs, logistics, maintenance and engineering. The future force requires ~500 fuel tankers, 1,500 logistics carriers, 3,500 medium trucks, 200 recovery vehicles and 300 tank carriers. ~7,000 more logistics vehicles are needed 2030-40. Ammunition stocks remain insufficient, which limits training and readiness for high-intensity combat. Maintenance costs for Tiger and NH90 helicopters continue to rise without corresponding improvements in availability. Aviation maintenance funding increases by 21% in 2027. The army's operational budget for 2027 increased by 13.7% to 2.8 billion euros.
