According to reports in the Royal Navy, qualified captains have run out, according to the Sun. Submarines: 0 Passed the Fresher Command Course in 2025. Surface ships: less than 10 certified, compared to ~35 required per year. Only 3 officers trained to command submarines since 2024, all through overseas courses. The sun is a dubious source though, but the RN seems to be running out on both ships and people, so maybe the shortage doesn't matter all that much on its own.
