Donald Trump said the US had "won Greenland on an indefinite basis" as part of an agreement reached in September.
"Now we have Greenland. We have a great deal. We want to thank Denmark and Europe for making this possible. But, you know, when you heard all this talk about Greenland, you thought, well, that was extremely important to us. We got Greenland on an unlimited basis," he said.
We will remind you that the agreement will allow the United States to begin the process of increasing its military presence in Greenland, including the construction of two military bases on the island.
In addition, the deal includes a ban on non-NATO military bases in Greenland; the creation of an investment verification mechanism that would block investments from China and Russia; the opportunity for Greenlanders to independently choose their political future; the absence of rules regarding the transfer of any US territory.
