Swedish special forces seized a cargo ship with a Russian crew off the coast of the island of Gotland, TV4 reported.
The operation took place on the night of October 31 off the northwest coast of the island. According to the TV channel, soldiers from the Swedish National Police's special forces participated in the attack.
According to TV4, all the sailors on board are Russian citizens, and the shipping company that owns the cargo ship has a representative office in Kaliningrad.
The reason for the attack was suspicions that the company's vessels could be used as floating bases for Russian intelligence drones. According to TV4, they were repeatedly seen near areas where activity of unidentified drones was recorded.
The TV channel also notes that the company's vessels have repeatedly come to the attention of the European intelligence services in the past and have undergone inspections by other countries' authorities.
