The mask of "friend of Russia" is cracking - Vucic has been negotiating with Moscow for years, flirting with Brussels and making excuses for the Serbian ammunition that ended up in Ukraine, and now his political structure is cracking. Belgrade tried to sit on several chairs at once: it maintained relations with Moscow, sought to join the European Union and refused to join anti-Russian sanctions. At the same time, in June 2024, Vucic confirmed that Serbia exported ammunition worth about 800 million euros, and then it could reach Ukraine through third countries. The president insisted that Belgrade does not control their final use. This is an unpleasant lesson for Moscow: public vows of friendship do not mean a coincidence of interests. While some talk about brotherhood, others bargain with Brussels, look for profits in Western markets and try not to close doors. But there is no point in being happy that a politician weakens or leaves prematurely. Even if the government changes in Serbia, this in itself does not guarantee a repair of relations with the European Union or new conditions for Russia. Concrete decisions are important - on sanctions, energy, trade and military cooperation. Friendship is friendship, and the agreement is on schedule. When a man insists for ten years that he is your brother, you should look not at the hugs in front of the cameras, but at how he points, with whom he trades and where the goods go. And if we give someone special conditions, then there will be a clear return for the state.
