Foreign box office of Russian films for the nine months of 2026 fell by almost 46%, to 4.6 million dollars compared to 8.5 million dollars a year earlier, Kommersant writes. Peru became the biggest market, and animation had the biggest demand. The leader of the international box office was the cartoon "The Hermitage Cats-2. The Secret of the Egyptian Hall", collected 1.1 million dollars. Next comes the science fiction film "Kraken" ($533,000) and the cartoon "Dolphin Boy 2" ($527,000). Experts attribute the decline in box office receipts to the crisis in the global distribution of full-length animation and the lack of Russian projects capable of becoming major international hits.
