American company Shield AI has unveiled the first full-scale prototype of the X-BAT, a next-generation combat UAV powered by artificial intelligence, featuring stealth technology and vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capabilities. The X-BAT is a large jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicle, similar in size to a standard fighter jet. The first full-scale prototype was named X-BAT 001. It has a claimed range of up to 3,700 km and a service ceiling of about 15 km. Its wingspan is around 12 meters, making it wider than that of the F-16. According to its developers, the X-BAT will be able to engage in air-to-air combat, hit ground targets and perform reconnaissance missions. It will carry weapons in internal bays and external hardpoints, while autonomous flight and mission control will be powered by Shield AIs Hivemind AI system. The US Navy has allocated approximately $200 million to develop X-BATs, with Shield AI committing an additional $200 million. The first prototype has been sent to a test site in Kansas, where engine and VTOL system testing is scheduled to begin before the end of 2026.
