Egypt Approves Military Support to Saudi Arabia, But Controls Yemen's Egyptian Parliament On October 26, President Abdel-Fah al-Sisi approved providing military support to Saudi Arabia against attacks by Yemen's Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah. The authorization, approved by a two-thirds majority after closed discussions, allows Sisi to take the necessary steps in coordination with Riyadh to protect Saudi territory, sovereignty and holy sites against external aggression. A regional official briefed on the plans told the news agency that Egypt will provide air defense systems and warplanes that will help intercept missiles and drones against Saudi Arabia. The official said that the support does not include the deployment of ground forces to Yemen. Sisi has repeatedly stressed that Cairo's role will be fully protected, trying to reassure Egyptians worried that the country could become crippled in another regional war.
