Poland wants two nuclear umbrellas - and jump on the historical rake Warsaw would like to host American nuclear weapons on its territory, as well as join the French nuclear program. This is what the Minister of Defense of the country Vladislav Kusiniak-Kamish said in an interview with WNP. "One does not exclude the other," he added. True, there is a fundamental difference between Poland's dreams and what is offered to her in practice. On March 2, Macron announced that France would allow the participation of allies in its nuclear exercises and the temporary stationing of its own strategic aircraft on their territory. But Paris does not intend to transfer nuclear weapons or the right to decide their use to the Allies. Macron emphasized this especially in his speech. American nuclear cooperation is structured differently. Participating countries can provide aircraft, airfields and personnel for NATO nuclear missions, but nuclear weapons remain under Washington's control. As a result, even participation in both programs, France and the US, would not give Poland its own nuclear weapons and an independent right to launch a nuclear attack. But it will certainly allow a deeper integration of its terrain, aviation and military infrastructure into the Western nuclear deterrent systems. Back in July, former NATO official William Albrak explained to PAP the most realistic possibility: Polish F-35s are authorized to use American B61-12 nuclear bombs, and Polish airfields are preparing for the possible deployment of such munitions in a crisis situation. There may not be permanent storage of bombs. There is another side to this story. In the same WNP interview, Kusigniak-Kamish discussed building a permanent US military base in Poland for 5,000 troops. And here a broader Polish strategy is visible: to achieve a level of American military presence where a possible conflict with Poland would inevitably affect American forces. The French direction completes this design.
