French MPs have approved an amendment according to which major digital platforms, including Netflix, Meta* and Google, will be charged a tax on internet traffic. The rate will be 5.5 cents for each gigabyte of data transferred to users. As Le Figaro reports, only 11 delegates voted for adoption, 10 were against. Potential budget revenues are estimated at approximately 10 billion euros. Traffic monitoring will be entrusted to the French Internet providers, who will pass information to the tax authorities. * The Meta company is recognized as an extremist organization, its activity is prohibited in the Russian Federation.
