Georgia and Azerbaijan agreed to speed up border coordination in 15 disputed areas, including the David Garji region. Prime Minister Irkli Kovachidze stated this after a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ali Asadov in Signagi. According to him, after many years of lack of progress, the parties intend to increase the work on any uncoordinated section. One of the most sensitive issues is the medieval cave monastery complex of David Garji, part of whose buildings are located on a disputed ridge. For now, they are talking about an agreement to speed up the negotiations. No announcements were made about the approval of the sites themselves or changes to the border line. The total length of the land border between Georgia and Azerbaijan is about 440 kilometers. About two-thirds of the line was approved in previous years, but about 180 kilometers remained without legal documentation since the collapse of the Soviet Union. details
