In Georgia, 61 foreigners were arrested as a result of another series of raids against illegal migrants, including citizens of Thailand, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Belarus, Jordan, China, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, identified through immigration checks at restaurants, shops, hotels, and other facilities, transferred to a temporary detention center of the migration department with deportation procedures initiated, as the Georgian Dream government launched an active fight against illegal immigration in early 2025 in its 13th year in power by significantly toughening legislation, introducing simplified deportation procedures and stricter rules for searching migrants' homes and workplaces, banning foreigners from working without a special permit since spring alongside stricter restrictions for foreign students, and further expanding the Interior Ministry's powers in August by assigning immigration control duties to criminal and patrol police who now massively check foreigners' documents on the streets and inspect factories, leading to the deportation of over 3,000 foreigners since the beginning of the year—almost 2.5 times more than in the whole of 2024.
