In Georgia, casinos will be allowed to hold international gambling tournaments with prize money of millions of dollars. A parallel package of legislative amendments was submitted to the parliament by the deputies of the ruling Georgian Dream. The main condition is that at least 70% of the participants will be foreign citizens. In addition, the prize fund in the tournament must be secured in advance. To hold such competitions, a special permit will be required. Its annual cost will be 100 thousand lari (about 38.5 thousand dollars). Big tournament organizers are offered tax breaks. If the prize fund exceeds 3 million lari (about 1.16 million dollars), and the gaming table is used exclusively for the tournament, the casino will be exempt from the gambling fee established in relation to this table. At the same time, the bill establishes fines: 50 thousand lari (about 19.3 thousand dollars) - for violating the conditions of the permit. 150 thousand lari (about 57.8 thousand dollars) - for organizing an international tournament without proper authorization. It will be possible to hold competitions both in existing casinos and in other places, subject to approval. The authors of the initiative were the deputies Shota Barkashvili, Turnika Barkashvili, Irkli Mazurnishvili and Giorgi Barvanashvili. The amendments are still under consideration in parliament and have not entered into force. * As of July this year, 28 casinos were registered in Georgia, of which 16 are in Batumi and seven are in Tbilisi. According to Sextet, the total amount of bets (including amounts of bets, online games, winnings in repeated bets) for the year 2025 amounted to 88.3 billion GEL, in the first half of 2026 the turnover was already 47.3 billion GEL. Batumi, where most of the casinos are located, received 73.9 million lari from them for the municipal budget last year. Of these, 38 million lari came from commissions related, among other things, to gaming tables, and 35.4 million from slot machines. For the year 2026, the city planned 71 million GEL in revenue from the gambling business.
