Independent Australian MP Helen Haynes has been critically injured after she is believed to have been attacked near her office in the state of Victoria. A Toyota Land Cruiser collided with Haynes while she was loading equipment into her vehicle, passers-by took control of the attacking driver, a 43-year-old man from her constituency, and the police found a knife in his vehicle. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said authorities believe it was a deliberate attack, and the police's counter-terrorism team has been called in as part of the investigation. Victoria Police announced that she is expected to be evacuated by helicopter to hospital in the city of Melbourne.
