โ๏ธ๐ฎ๐ท/๏ธ New: Iran has resumed excavation and development in one of its largest dormant projects, the underground complex in Abyek, codenamed 'Site 311' by Western and Israeli intelligence agencies
The site is located along the Tehran-Qazvin corridor, about 100 km from Tehran. The facility was excavated in a mountainous area and includes several portals of tunnels, apparently connected to an extensive underground network that includes dozens of halls and bunkers, one of the largest of its kind in Iran.
Satellite imagery indicates a large project, with large amounts of excavated spoil, supporting infrastructure and considerable rock load providing protection for facilities within the mountain.
Most of the excavation work at this site was conducted between 2007 and 2016. After that, most of the work was stopped for unknown reasons, and only parts of the complex were put into use. However, immediately after Operation Epic Rage, satellite images showed a clear change: Iran returned to the project and resumed excavation at a rapid pace not seen at the site for about a decade, starting almost immediately after the bombing stopped.
The site attracted international attention in 2010, after it was accused of being a secret uranium enrichment facility. The claim has never been independently verified, and there is still no conclusive public evidence that uranium enrichment has taken place at the site. Its exact purpose remains unknown.
