The French Senate approved the bill requiring the demonstrators to pay compensation The French Senate, with 229 votes in favor, approved the plan to hold participants of violent gatherings liable for damages. Under this plan, people who participated in violent gatherings, even if they did not commit personal destruction, could be jointly liable for paying damages. The government can claim compensation of up to 10,000 euros from each person. It is also possible to withdraw part of the family allowances, housing allowances and minimum income benefits to compensate for damages. This plan is currently being considered in the National Assembly; where political disagreements may make final approval difficult.
