French President Emmanuel Macron: I am here in Marseille this morning to be with the mayor and all his teams, as you know, Marseille was attacked and greatly affected on the 17th of October. I am also here with the regional commissioner and the commissioner of all internal security forces, who maintained and managed a very good job last Saturday.
And so we will continue. On Saturday there were demonstrations throughout the country and order was also maintained. Businesses were protected, public buildings were protected. We still had almost 80 businesses affected across France - that's still too many. So we will continue to improve.
But the organization and the expectation were there, and with the prime minister, the interior minister, the whole government and the organization established for October 24, we were able to hold and defend, and that was the main task.
After that, demonstrations managed to organize; The right to protest was preserved, and it's a good thing. But with recalculated routes and outside the city centers.
So I say all this, first, with my thanks to the internal security forces and the work done last Saturday.
