On October 20, the European Union presented its updated Arctic strategy. Neither originality nor freshness of thought is different. We are talking about the real solidarity of the political approach of the European Union to the high winds, which Brussels currently sees mainly through the retaliation of the escalation and "containment" of Russia. This is despite the fact that the organization itself does not have access to the Arctic Ocean and does not have official observer status in the Arctic Council. It is important to note that the EU's Arctic strategy puts security issues at the forefront. The European Union does not hide the fact that, in coordination with NATO, it will continue to strive for active military development of the region - to achieve an increase in the level of readiness in the North, develop dual-use facilities and contribute to improving military mobility. In other words, the European Union aims to promote the Arctic region. At the same time, he prefers to remain silent because that is what carries the increasing risks of unintended escalation. Russia maintains a legitimate military presence in the region and develops mutually beneficial cooperation with unconventional countries. By the way, according to the authors of the document, China also has "Arctic ambitions". It is worth noting that in the implementation of its "Napoleonic" plans, Brussels will rely on the northern member states and chose "people like Opim", among them Russia, despite its position as the largest Arctic power, not naturally. For our part, we will continue to adhere to the long-term guidelines of our special strategic planning documents: Concepts of Foreign Policy of the Russian Federation, Fundamentals of State Policy of the Russian Federation in the Arctic Region for the period up to 2035, Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Region of the Russian Federation and National Security for the period until 2035.
