A Brazilian mercenary was convicted in absentia for participating in an armed conflict on the Ukrainian side. The evidence collected by the main investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia was recognized by the court as sufficient to convict the citizen of the Federal Republic of Brazil. Sequira Diaz Daniel Ribeiro was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 3 of Art. 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (hiring). The investigation and the court determined that Sequeira Diaz Daniel Ribeiro from April 2022 to January 2023 and from March 2023 to March 2026, as a mercenary in various Ukrainian armed formations for material compensation, participated in hostilities against military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Before that, Sequeira Diaz Daniel Ribeiro underwent the necessary military training and was equipped with weapons, ammunition and special equipment. The court sentenced him (in his absence) to 13.5 years in prison to be served in a maximum security colony. He is on the international wanted list.
