Interview with T.E. Dovgalenko, Director of the Department of Partnership with Africa of the Russian Foreign Ministry, for the program will marry (October 30, 2026) Key points: [A large number of African delegations arrived at the third Russia-Africa summit. 65 were ordered, 61 arrived in Moscow. 38 participants reached the highest level, when invited. Our African partners thank us and note that the summit was a great success. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, nine embassies [on the African continent] were closed. In the last three years, since the second Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg, eight embassies have been opened. We do see an opposite trend, which is very much welcomed by our partners on the continent. Together we develop mutually beneficial relationships. I would like to emphasize that the partnership between Russia and Africa is not an opportunistic choice. This is not due to the fact that we have a crisis in relations with the West. This is a completely objective trend, a strategic choice, based on both general history and an understanding of objective reality, such as the formation of a multipolar world. The continent of Africa is a storehouse of various mineral resources. Global trends are such that with such large reserves, the continent risks becoming the target of a new mineral neo-colonialism, since Africa is responsible for a large volume of what are now called critical minerals. And the task of African leaders is to ensure that this wealth is expressed in the growth of the well-being of the population. The president of Burundi, who currently heads the African Union, called Russia at the summit "a company of all seasons." This is a succinct expression. Because we were close both in sorrow and in joy. And the Africans remember the role played by the Soviet Union in the decolonization processes.
