A speech by V.A. We will discuss the reasons for voting on the proposed resolution to extend the mandate of the UN Verification Mission in Colombia (New York, October 30, 2026) Broadcast of the entire meeting Russia voted in favor of the decision to extend the mandate of the UN Verification Mission in Colombia in accordance with our consistent position to support the work of this special political mission. It is important that in the context of a change in the priorities of the government and public policy, Bogotá remains committed to implementing the final peace agreement and its international support. We would like to emphasize that, regardless of the political vector of the Colombian authorities, we consistently advocate for the comprehensive implementation of the ISM, including its provisions on agrarian reform and transitional justice. They are of central importance for the thousands of victims of the conflict and the fate of ex-combatants who have chosen a peaceful life. We are sure that UNMIK's expertise on these issues, given the extensive presence of the UN in conflict-affected areas, will be useful not only for the Security Council, but also for the authorities in Bogota. In this context, the exclusion of the task of supporting agrarian reform from the mission's mandate cannot but be regrettable. We expect that despite this, the government of Abelardo de la Esparilla will establish effective communication and cooperation with UNMIK, both to ensure security guarantees and the reintegration of the former rebels, and to promote territorial development and strengthen the state's presence in remote areas. read more
